Paddy has been diagnosed with severe Aplastic Anaemia and needs a bone marrow transplant.
There is currently no match worldwide. So we need to raise awareness and get as many people on the register as possible. The more people sign up the more chance we have of finding a match.
Paddy Igoe is 12 years old and lives in Coventry with his Mum (Donna), Dad (Shaun) and siblings; Molly (14), Jack (9) and Isabella (6).
Donna spoke to the Coventry Telegraph about finding out about Paddy’s diagnosis.
“Paddy fell ill on New Year’s Eve, and we assumed it was just a virus.”
“But he still hadn’t recovered a couple of weeks later and had very little energy. He’s usually very active so we thought something was wrong.”
“We took him to a walk-in centre, who told us to take Paddy to hospital. He was later transferred to Birmingham Children’s Hospital when initial tests showed he may have leukaemia.”
“Our world was turned upside down in an instant. Although the doctors were later able to rule out leukaemia, he was diagnosed with aplastic anaemia, which has made him very tired and weak.
“Since then, Paddy has hardly been to school because of his condition, and he’s been unable to play football which he absolutely loves.”
